Hello Again

Well, it has been a while since I blogged. My computer contracted a viral ailment that reduced it to a skeleton of its former self. Then I was at the Law Center conference and on and on ...
Last Sunday was a great Sunday. We had 7 first time visitors on Sunday morning. We saw two people receive Christ as Savior last week, which was the greatest blessing of all. We also witnessed some growth in some of our 'regular' folks. God is so good.
This Sunday afternoon, I will be speaking on "A New Era - part 2". This will be a special message that I really want you to hear. The message will not be recorded --- it will be a "your ears only" message for those who are here for the afternoon service.
Bertha was back among us on Sunday - it was nice to see her back up and about. Luke and Susan and Monica have returned from California. Dackson and family were all here for Sunday School and the AM service last week, which was great to see.

This Week

Wednesday night we'll be dealing with Psalm 68 - a difficult and wonderful Psalm.
Sunday School we'll study Proverbs.
The afternoon service on Sunday, will be a "sending/commissioning" service for Pastor Dan and Heather, as they go out to start the Old Paths Bible Church across the river. The service will feature a special dedication prayer, a special commissioning message ... and a concert by the Living Waters Quartet. (Our farewell concert, as it were). After the afternoon service, there will be "finger food" and fellowship. I encourage everyone to plan to be here in the afternoon and to stay for the fellowship time, as well.
As we send out Pastor Dan and Heather, we send them as a mission work from our church. The Nodurfts, I understand, feel led to go and be a part of this mission work. We hate to see anyone leave, but am pleased when folks leave to go into ministry work.

Busy Week

Well, it has been an eventful week.
For those who missed it, Sunday we announced that Pastor Dan and Heather are being sent out by TCB to start a church in the Tualatin area. We're excited for them. We were asked to go on Thursday to look at a potential building for the new church. It appears the Lord has really been working on their behalf ... what a great place! So ... be praying for them --- Old Paths Bible Church will start services on August 2.
On July 26, we will have a dedication/sending service for Pastor Dan and Heather, a special message for that occasion ---- and the first (and maybe last) concert by the Living Waters Quartet. The guys will be singing a half-dozen songs in that service. Should be a special time.
Missionary B.J. Cormier and wife Jess (and son Seth) have been here since Tuesday afternoon. We enjoyed their presentation on Wednesday night. I tried to encourage folks to take them out for supper Thursday and Friday night ... thanks Pastor Dan and Heather for feeding them on Friday night. My wife and I had the privilege of taking them out on Wednesday night and having them for lunch on Thursday and enjoyed the fellowship and the conversation.

The Latest from Chattanooga

Hi Blog Fans --
Been a while since my last blog. Sorry. Didn't mean to neglect you all.
I am in Chattanooga again for a few days. Treatment today, shot tomorrow, treatment again on Thursday. Feeling well, but my voice continues to be MIA.
Pastor Jerry is preaching Wednesday night, so plan to be there and enjoy the message and prayer time.
Sunday - Lord willing - I'll be covering Job in SS, moving on to the letter T in the afternoon (Baptist distinctives) and the morning message ..... we'll probably return to our series on Ordinary People in the Hands of an Extraordinary God. Of course, if my voice continues to be in absentia, one of the guys may have to preach. (I know they would be disappointed.)
Well, I'm going to bed now. Had a short night last night. Got in an hour late (12:40) - didn't get my luggage until this morning - got to sleep around 3. I know, those of you with babies think that doesn't sound so bad, but for us old folks --- it's a tired day.
Keep praying for the Doc. And the Pastor.

Dr. Lloyd Shepherd, pastor in Union City, IN, went home to be with the Lord this morning at 9:20. His homegoing ends months of pain and discomfort and is, indeed, the blessing he has been waiting for throughout these past few years. I will miss him, but cannot but rejoice that he is well and with the Lord.

I am leaving Friday morning (6:04 am!!!!!!!) for Walsburg, CO. We'll be meeting with the folks from the church and speaking ... and removing the church from the corporation. Pray for me that I can be a real blessing and help to this church.

July 4th coming up. Activities for the kids ... games ... food ... fellowship ... a bit of history. And it's all free. Invite someone.

I will be going back to Chattanooga on July 6th for a week (Mon-Fri) and will be doing some chelation treatments there.

Bro. Dan Lindsey will continue our thru the Bible series in SS --- Ezra and Nehemiah. Pastor Dan will be preaching in the morning service and Pastor Jerry in the afternoon.

Friday Afternoon Greetings ...
Sunday is coming up on us ... Father's Day this Sunday and a special message: Continuing our series on 'Ordinary People in the Hand of an Extraordinary God", this week "The Needy Father".
We have a number of folks who have made commitments to visit this Sunday ... 6 or 7, which would be great. I trust each of you will be faithful and be here. Make sure to welcome our visitors and let them know how pleased we are to have them at TCB.

She Received Christ

Hi All --
Brief update: My wife had a 'Bible Study' with Scheryl this morning. They were starting through the "My God and I" follow-up booklet. The first lesson - What Christ has Done for Me - deals with salvation. As they went through and studied the verses, it became clear that Scheryl was not truly saved. After a thorough study of the plan of salvation, she prayed and asked the Lord to save her. We thank the Lord for the work of His Holy Spirit and His wonderful grace.

6 weeks

Sunday made it 6 consecutive weeks with visitors in our services. What a blessing. We had a new couple - Luke and Susan - on Sunday and they seemed to enjoy the service a great deal. We certainly enjoyed having them with us. They promised to be back next week - with kids. Maybe we'll see them Wednesday night. Susan and Luke run an alterations shop near the church. Nice folks.
Music was good on Sunday and the Holy Spirit seemed to be moving through the Word - so it was a great day.
Dale W. and Bob Meyers are both ill and need our prayers. The Zikes will be returning to us on Thursday, so be praying for them as they travel.

Looking forward to tomorrow

We had a good day of calling today. A couple of folks looking for a Bible-believing Baptist church ... are supposed to be here tomorrow. A couple of recent visitors are planning to be back --- and bring folks with them. My wife is starting a Bible study with one of the ladies, who asked if she could "bring some friends with her." Well ... OK!
Preaching tomorrow on "Befriending the Betrayer" - part of my series "Ordinary People in the Hands of an Extraordinary God". A message that should challenge every Christian in the place ... and speak to the lost. I have great material --- the Bible --- so now it's up to the Holy Spirit ... out of my hands.
We've waited all this time to see folks from the neighborhood begin to come ... to reach out to those who need our ministry. What a blessing to see the doors beginning to open. It is also a blessing to see our people recognizing that this is what this ministry is about ... reaching beyond our walls.

Vacation time

Hi all.
For those who are wondering, I am feeling much improved. Have a ways to go yet, but sure noticing a difference in my energy level already.
We had good services on Sunday. Attendance was OK, but the spirit was good. Had some visitors (PTL) and the music was good. The Lord seemed to use the messages, for which we are grateful.
Seems like this must be the vacation time. Dan and Heather are gone back east for a few days - visiting family and Dan will be preaching for Bro. Marshall tonight, I believe. So pray for him.
The Winegarden's are off to see Andrew for a few days. I'm sure he will be pleased to be able to spend time with them --- and I think they are really looking forward to spending time with him, too.
We'll miss all of them while they are away from us and wish them a relaxing and refreshing time.
In the meantime, we keep on keeping on. Had a great opportunity to witness to a living room full of people at Scheryl's house Tuesday. Pray that the Lord will give Scheryl strength to grow in the Lord ... and pray for the folks that were there and heard the gospel.

Greetings all.
I am waiting on the Doc to come and pick me up, so thought I would just drop a short blog. Things are going well here, I think. Have had the opportunity to witness to the Doc a couple of times. Progress, but no decision.
I hear that Jerry did a great job on Wednesday night - and that the attendance was good. Praise the Lord for that. Nice to have guys that can handle things when I'm away. Pastor Dan will be preaching Sunday afternoon.
Speaking of Sunday --- the morning message is entitled: Recycling the Unusable. (It's my environmentally sensitive message ;-)

Great Sunday ... long week

Yesterday was a great day! With the 5 visitors, many decisions and Sheryl's testimony about her son --- and seeing him in church, what a blessing. The music was a blessing yesterday and the spirit in the services was exceptionally good. Who can doubt that God is working in our midst? As He works among us, let us be constantly challenged by the question: "Who are we looking for?" Are we looking for the Pharisees or the Matthews? Individually and as a church!

Long week ahead --- all day flying to Chattanooga on Tuesday, treatments with Dr. Burkich Wed, Thurs, and Fri --- and flying all day home on Saturday. Hopefully, by Saturday I will feel a whole lot more like flying than I do today. Keep praying. And pray for Dr. Burkich that God will speak to him and we might see him saved.

Bits and Pieces

Busy day for me. I talked to 4 pastors who needed help of one kind or another (Praise the Lord He allows me to do that), scheduled our 8 day Bible Conference for next May (9-16) with Evangelist Mike Thurmond, imposed upon Dr. Townsend to fulfill a travel commitment I had, agreed to go to Colorado to deal with a church about the incorporation issue, and finished the MW message for tonight. I have also been looking for a printer for my office ... we need to replace my printer and finances are not favorable right now, but we're working to make it happen.
Pastor Jerry was out calling and had a couple of hopeful calls, so that was a Praise the Lord!
Looking forward to the prayer meeting tonight ... hopefully we have a good crowd and will have a good spirit in the services, which we have had lately.
I've been taking it easier and am feeling somewhat better. Will go see Dr. Burkich in Chattanooga next week and see if he can significantly improve my health situation. Keep praying.

We had a good day today. Half a dozen visitors including a couple from door to door calling on Saturday. Good spirit in the services, with a number of decisions. Encouraging to see God at work. Have a great Memorial Day and don't lose sight of the reason for the day --- the men and women who died preserving our freedoms.

Monday Morning

Good morning ...
Monday mornings are ... Monday mornings. Had a good day yesterday. Attendance was stable, in spite of all the sickness. Spirit in the services was good. God was speaking to hearts. I felt completely at ease preaching yesterday --- I always love to preach, but sometimes I just feel at ease and relaxed and enjoy a lot of freedom in preaching. Yesterday was one of those days.
Thanks to the "fill in" music folks -- Heather Z and Heather J and the trio (and Carole). I enjoyed the music.
I hope the morning messages have been a blessing to you - they have been to me. Ordinary Mary and Mediocre Man ... ordinary people in the hands of an extraordinary God. I'm looking forward the message for next week (I don't know who it is going to be yet).
Wednesday night we'll be in Psalm 34. Hope you all get well (Norma included) and are able to be with us.

Home and Happy

Got home last night. Slept - yes, actually slept, in my own bed. Got to see my wife. Finished up my messages for tomorrow ... looking forward to preaching. Had some 'medical' treatment done, which made a huge difference in the hold this "stuff" had on me. Not well yet, but 75% ... I'll settle for that this week.
Hope you all get well. This stuff is in Tennessess, Indiana, Texas, Georgia ... in other words, it's all over. That's good --- it means it isn't a plague the Lord is visiting on our people! I am praying, however, that He will deliver us from it.
My wife is still pretty much in the grips of the "stuff", but my Tennessee Dr. got her a prescription, which we believe will start helping her soon.

It's warm in Chattanooga

Greetings sicklings and well persons --
I am in Chattanooga, TN and the weather is great. It's 11:30 pm here - I arrived at my motel about an hour ago. It is still 71 outside. Really nice.
Hope you all are improving. I have not improved as much as I had hoped, at this point, but am hoping to get back up to speed by the time I come home.
To the Bill Jacksons, the Jerry Jackson kids, the Zike kids, the Lewis kids, the Pechs, the Nodurfts (including Scott), the Reagans, Joe W., and the Harrises (and anyone else that was sick on Sunday that I forgot to mention) --- I missed you all!!! Hope you are all back this coming week.
Jerry will be preaching on Wednesday night. I hope you will be able to be there to support him and be a part of our prayer service.
Speaking of prayer, here are some requests: little Josiah needs you prayers, as does his family ... my wife has not been well this week ... Jerry had some good calls on Monday, pray they will bear fruit ... Andrew Winegarden is in basic training ... Lucille is doing better, but still not well ... with all the people missing, the offering was way down on Sunday ...
By the way, thanks to Dale and Mark and Jerry for filling in for music on Sunday. That was a blessing.

Good things ahead

I was excited by the good messages at the conference. Dr. Townsend's final message, I think, was needed by us all. We had a lot of decisions made during the conference --- and some that weren't. I am praying that the Lord will continue to work. For those who continue to resist the Holy Spirit, I pray God's continuing conviction, until there is submission to the Lord. For those who responded to the Holy Spirit, I pray that they will follow through and go on with the decisions they have made.

By the way, this cold I ended up with (whether it was Dr. Townsend's fault or not ...) has really taken hold. Not only do I have the tremendous congestion and pressure in the head, but I have this irritating cough. I'd sure appreciate your prayers. I am planning to preach on Sunday -- hopefully, all day. It would, however, be a blessing if I could ditch this cough and the headache.

God at work.

What a great day we had on Sunday ... followed by an even greater day on Monday. We had a great time in the men's meeting this morning. I believe God was working in the lives of our men. Trish lived up to all expectations with her lunch ... nobody beats her prime rib.

The Holy Spirit was evident in the evening service. God was working in the lives of people who surrendered to His convicting power ... and in the lives of some who did not surrender to His conviction. But God is at work. This is what we have been praying for ... we have been anticipating. God at work in our lives --- God at work in our church.

Keep praying and keep expecting.

Other special things are happening: Men's meeting and lunch, Ladies luncheon, tour of the Leatherman factory .....

We have done all we can do ... we're praying that this will be a crossroads time for our church ... a time to make decisions that will determine our direction, as a church and as individuals.

Crucial Times

Good Afternoon ...
Tonight is our weekly Bible Study and Prayer meeting. A time to learn and grow closer to the Lord and a time to spend time in prayer together seeking God's help. A time to bring our burdens before the Lord and seek His power on our speakers for the conference ... and a time to ask the Lord to humble us and open our hearts so He can work in us this coming week. It will be a time to enjoy one another and share our hearts with one another ... and be blessed by the message of Psalm 24, as we continue to study the "Psalms that Speak".
I hope that's the way you look at the Wednesday night service. If so, I'll see you there!

I thought I wasn't going to make it

Good Morning all --
Well, I was at the airport getting ready to return on Sunday when my flight to Chicago was canceled (I was flying Ft. Wayne to Chicago to Springfield (MO) to Denver to Portland ... deep breath!). However, United offered to fly me via American from Indianapolis to Dallas to Portland arriving about 40 minutes later than planned. OK. So we drove down to Indianapolis, I checked in ... and they announced they were overbooked. Offered me a $300 voucher if I could wait and fly the next morning. I agreed (after they mentioned that they were going to fly me home First Class!!! -- I don't get to fly first class very often!). Then, they put me up at the Crowne Plaza overnight, gave me a voucher for food, printed out my first class tickets for the next day and gave me a little overnight kit ---- my baggage was going to Portland without me (which is different ... usually I go on without my baggage). I flew home on Monday and was served breakfast (of a sort) and lunch on the plane ... got home about 2:40 and, yes, my luggage was here. Thanks to Cleon for coming out to pick me up and drop me off at home.

So today I am back in the office - preparing for Wednesday night and the conference. I will be preaching during Sunday School (not part of our Genesis-Revelation in one year), my only preaching spot during the conference. I have been praying much that God will do something different at this conference. It is not designed as a social occasion, but as a concentrated time for God to deal with our hearts and our church. Pray with me about this. Come with an open heart, ready to be changed!

Anyhow, I'm back and glad to be back ... although I really enjoyed seeing my daughter and granddaughter --- always a special time for me.

OK, so Old Age is setting in

I can see the effects of old age creeping up. Scary.
Mark and Danielle's new baby boy is STEVEN ... I actually knew that. As I was sitting down to blog, I was talking to my friend Rodney here in Indiana and his son, Rodney Junior and wife Amy, just had a baby boy on Monday ... his name is ... yep, Gavin. So, as I was blogging away that name was on my mind and ... well ... uh ... I just typed the wrong name.

I have been able, however, to remember my own name, my wife's name (Norma) and my mother's name (Lucille), so all is not lost. Now if I could just think of a new name for the church ....... I'd probably forget it.

Sorry to Mark and Danielle and the grandparents. And Steven.

Hello All.
Well, congratulations are in order for Mark and Danielle (and Grandpa Bill and Grandma Vickie and Grandma Charlene). It's a boy, I hear -- Gavin ... and over 9 pounds. No wonder Danielle was so uncomfortable. Sorry I missed the big event -- and aftern waiting all that time, too. Boys seem to be all the rage lately ... Heather J is having one, Leah had one last time, Heather Z. had one last time and ... Danielle had one last time. So when did girls become so unpopular?
I am in Indiana. Currently trying to be of some help to a few folks here. Thursday my daughter picks me up and I am off to the east side of the state (Ft. Wayne) to spend a little time with my daughter and granddaughter. I miss you all ... but I won't miss you quite as much while I am in Ft Wayne!!
The conference is coming, so please be praying. Sometimes it seems that the conference has become a social occasion. I'm pleased they we can all enjoy Dr. Townsend and the Garissi family and hope that this year will be no exception. However, the purpose of the conference is to focus our attention for 4 consecutive days on the things of God. To allow God to work in us and change our lives. To make a difference in our church. If, at the end of the conference, we can only say we had a good time, enjoyed the musice and wasn't it great to spend time with our visitors, we have spent the time in vain. God wants to work IN us and then THROUGH us ... let's pray that our hearts will be ready for what HE wants to do.
I am praying that God will work, even this week, through the preaching and teaching of Pastor Dan, Pastor Jerry and Bro. Dan Lindsey. Be faithful to the Lord.

Good Morning --
This evening is our special men's prayer meeting for our upcoming conference. I encourage our men to be here to join in this prayer effort.
Tomorrow we will finish our Series on the Book of Daniel (chapters 11-12 all in one message!!) and we will also finish our afternoon series on Making God Real in Your Life.
We continue our Genesis to Revelation in One Year series in the Adult SS class.
After the conference we will begin 2 new series: Morning - Extraordinary God, Extraordinary Acts, Ordinary People (this series, I believe, will be a blessing and encouragement to you) ... Afternoon - The Book of Jeremiah (Wow - does Jeremiah have a lot to say to us today ... I'm talking about God's people in particular).

Waiting on the Lord

Good morning.
We talked to the Stalnaker's this morning. Still in the waiting mode. Here is the situation -- the prevailing opinion is that little Josiah has the worst kind of cancer ... none of the hospitals have ever seen this cancer in a child before ... if it is indeed this kind, it is inoperable ... even with radiation (the only possible treatment) the outlook is a 6 month life expectancy. I do not know God's will, but I do know this: if God is going to do a miracle, the situation must first be hopeless from the human standpoint. Also, if God wants to get glory for himself, he has removed all human pride and claims --- no doctor, hospital, surgeon, research lab, etc - can lay claim to any glory from this. Maybe -- just maybe -- God is positioning Himself to do something awesome?!?!?

Silas has been sick, following AJ's bout. My wife is better and functional today. My mom is home and finding things much more difficult than she had anticipated. Keep praying.

I would like to take a moment to say how thankful our folks should be for the staff that God has provided us with. Pastor Dan and Pastor Jerry are both a blessing and their wives have been so faithful to be a part of the work. Donna does more than anyone realizes and Bro. Dan has made himself available to help in any way he can. I appreciate the wonderful attitude our staff has demonstrated and their willingness to be "helpers" in the work. In fact, the majority of the "spiritual" work that gets done here is done by the staff. On the one hand, that's a shame --- on the other hand, aren't we thankful for them!!!! I am!

Good day

Well, yesterday was Resurrection Sunday and, although we didn't have the attendance we would have liked in the morning (or in the afternoon, as far as that is concerned), I thought the services went well and the special music was truly special. I enjoyed leading the singing in the afternoon service and Pastor Dan's message was a blessing. By the way, Pastor Jerry's message on Wednesday night was excellent and very practical.

Still waiting for any word on little Josiah's surgery. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything. Pray for Danielle that all will continue to go well. It was good to have Joe back from his travels. We had a good group of men out for calling on Saturday morning. The ladies were involved with the Little Ladies Tea Party --- which, by the way, was outstanding.

My mom will be coming home on Thursday - thanks for praying and thanks to Mabel and Cleon, who have been over to see her nearly every day. Keep praying for Kathy - she's been sick while in Georgia.

Thanks to Dale for helping Delbert with the mowing. Thanks to Delbert and June for planting the new tree and bushes by the front walk.

Sunday - AM Service - A special message "Come and See". Evangelistic, encouraging, needful. Lots of special music that you will want to hear.
Sunday - Aft Service - Pastor Dan speaking and more special music ... and testimonies.

Greetings.
Norma and I arrived in Boise Sunday night/Monday morning about 2:00 am. We slept - sort of - and got over to the hospital around 10:00 am. We went in to see little Josiah and the Herrings. We visited and had prayer with them. We delivered the offering from the church, which was gratefully received ... Jason and Suzy were overwhelmed by the love gift from our folks. We also delivered the Stalnaker's regular support and an additional gift to help. It was good to see them and they were happy to see us --- especially here in Boise. Debbie Hinds is here, as well, and we were able to visit with her at lunch.
Before the day was over, things changed somewhat drastically. When we returned from lunch (uh ... about 4:30pm -- late lunch that started at 3:00), we learned that Josiah was going HOME. The surgery had been scheduled for Friday and nothing was going to happen between now and then, so they thought it would be good for him to be able to go home for a couple of days. As Jason and Suzy discussed things with the Doctor, they are considering a wide range of options. They are still waiting for the analysis by the Dr. at Johns Hopkins, which may alter the way they treat this tumor. They are also considering other options for the surgery, if they continue with that --- St. Judes Hospital in Memphis is one potential option. So ... in the short term, the surgery will probably be delayed.
We will spend some time with the family tomorrow and probably leave for home. Depending on what time we leave here and how we feel, we may travel part of the way back on Tuesday and come on in on Wednesday. We are both sort of "wiped out" from the very long day on Sunday.

Weekend coming up

Good afternoon.
I'm looking forward to the weekend ... I'm hoping that the plague has passed us over and people will be well and back at church. Wednesday night was reminiscent of the attendances we had 2 years ago. We were decimated. If you were sick and missing --- we missed you and prayed for you. If you were here --- we were thrilled to see you. If you were not sick and were missing --- well, I prayed for you too!
Many of our folks are recovering, praise the Lord. Stalnaker's grandson (Josiah - age 4) had the "biopsy" on Thursday and came through in good shape. Now, there is the waiting to see what the findings are concerning the tumor in his brain. Keep praying for Josiah and his parents Jason and Suzy Herring and for Virl and Sandy as they continue to be in Idaho to be with their children and grandchildren. TCB sent a small gift to help with their added expenses.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the music practice time. If you are on the schedule please be faithful for this important time of preparation. We want to do our best for the Lord.
I have pretty well put this illness behind me ... my voice is not quite 100% yet, but the rest of me feels about normal.

** The economy is recovering and President Obama's takeover of the automobile industry appears to have successfully salvaged GM and Chrysler.
** The flu/sickness that has been going around the area seems to have finally depleted itself and is done for this year.
** The church has had such great offerings that the pastor is considering asking people not to bring money for a while.

On a more serious note:
Donna and Pastor Jerry and Heather J., Silas, AJ, Danielle and James are all sick ... don't know who else. PRAY.
Stalnaker's grandson undergoes a procedure today to determine the type of tumor they believe he has on his brain ... results will not be known until Friday or Monday. PRAY.
The days are difficult days ... our God is a great God. These are times when we need to learn the essential -- PRAY.

Greetings Blogfellows -
We've got some upbeat news ... and some not so upbeat news ....
On the upbeat, Debbie Townsend is home and doing as well as could be expected given her double surgery. Praise the Lord ... and keep praying for her.
Mom is in good spirits and is comfortable. Her therapy just started yesterday, but here printing is showing some improvement. She is able communicate reasonably well most of the time ... but it will take some time to recover her full word forming capabilities. Thanks for praying and keep it up.
On the not so upbeat side, Carole W. is still down and feeling poorly. Some of you aren't praying hard enough, I can tell :-) Do continue to pray for Carole that she will be up and back with us soon.
Pastor Dan and Noah have been having a bad couple of days ... sounds like stomach flu to me. They both need your prayers -- as does Heather, I imagine.
Mark and Howard M. and others were feeling "punk" on Sunday - pray for them to get well.
Ron was over today, along with Howard L., doing more painting in the nursery and putting down some trim. It's beginning to look right down bright and cheery in our nursery. I like it.

Good Afternoon -
Here's the latest news:
* Mom has been transferred to the rehab center at Town Center Village. She is struggling with her words and can't write because of the stroke. She is unsteady on her right side, as well. Your prayers are appreciated.
* Debbie Townsend had emergency surgery (appendectomy). While they had her under the knife they did a hysterectomy, which should resolve her recent medical problems. Pray that she will recover quickly and have these medical problems behind her.
* Danielle's kids and Leah's kids have been feeling poorly ... hopefully it's not this month long thing I have been fighting. Danielle and Mark have been not feeling well this week.
* The girls had a nice time at their "Girls Night Out". Thanks to the 'girls' who were there.
* New series in Sunday School ... "Genesis to Revelation in 1 Year". You should probably buy a notebook to keep the notes in. Should be a good series ... when we're done, you will have a good understanding of the Bible as a whole and the 'flow' of scripture.
* We're preparing to go video on Sermonaudio.com. By conference time (hopefully before) we will be uploading video of the morning service. Both morning and afternoon services will continue to go on as audio files.
* Next Friday (27th) will be our family film night. We'll be showing "Fireproof" -- if you haven't seen it, YOU MUST. If you've already seen it, see it again and come and fellowship with us. 6:30 the festivities start.
* The parenting series is available on cd for those who want the entire series. $20 for the whole series of cds + the worksheets. See Donna.

Good Morning Bloggees (I am the bloggER, so you are the bloggEEs ... I think)
New Bible Institute class starts tonight. Apparently, I scared most people off. I was trying to do that, but there are a couple of you out there that needed to overcome the fear and come. We're going to teach presentation and delivery ... the actual verbal skills of teaching the Word. You can still get in if you show up tonight - or call Donna today.
Thursday is my day to get carted away for MDA (my own poetic attempt). I'm still in the position of needing all the help I can get. If anyone knows someone who, in spite of the economy, needs a big tax write off of, say, $2000 ... please put me in touch with them!!! Hopefully, we won't be totally embarrassed and will have a great opportunity to let the leaders of our community know that TCB is here. I am looking to open some doors of opportunity for our church.
I'm continuing to battle this "crud". I am functional, but wear out quickly ... I'm hoping it's the crud and not old age that is doing this to me. Keep praying - I need all the help I can get.
We were missing a lot of people Sunday - especially in the afternoon service. Thanks to those of you who were faithful. Your faithfulness means a great deal to me --- and I know that God is pleased as well.
Pray for our guys who need work. The economy is stagnant, at best, but God is greater than the economy. Continue to pray for Ron and Scott and Luke, too. Pray that Jerry will have regular work as we come into the spring season.

Juries, Jails and Joy

Interesting title, huh? Sort of caught your attention.
Well, I had jury duty today. Went and sat and - actually -wanted to be on the jury. People who understand the jury's duty need to get on juries instead of trying to weasel out of them!!! (On my soap box here) I think I got dismissed from consideration either because I put on my questionnaire that I was a preacher --- or because I listed "paralegal" as special education/training. Either way, I was home by 10 am.
As most of you know, I accepted an opportunity to "go to jail" for MDA ("Jerry's Kids"). I did so because I will spend 2 or 3 hours at Claim Jumpers with community leaders from Clackamas County. I think we need to be involved with our community ... and this was a great opportunity to get introduced to a whole group of community leaders all at once. The idea is to make a good impression. Unfortunately, I'm one week away from the event and have not raised a single $$$ for my "bail". I could use a little ... a whole lot ... of help here.
As for joy, we will complete our study on "how to have joy" this evening. Joy: The Demonstrable State of the Believer concludes the 7 message study. I hope you will be present for this important study -- and the even more important prayer time.

Uncommon Recovery

Ah the power of prayer!!!
Tuesday and Wednesday I was literally down in bed and unable to be up and around for more than 5 minutes at a time. Headache, cough, hoarse voice, aches ... the whole thing!
This morning (Thursday), I got up ... took a shower ... got dressed ... studied all morning ... met with Pastor Dan and Pastor Jerry after lunch for a couple of hours getting the funeral services planned ... and this evening I finished the bulletin and Sunday School worksheet! I rested some in between and will be resting some tomorrow -- the point is, I was feeling about 75% compared to about 25% yesterday. Not completely well, but feeling pretty good and functioning.
And then there is my voice ... about 20% yesterday -- hardly able to make myself heard (and not feeling up to doing so). Today, my voice is about 60% and improving as the day wore on. Not all there yet, but so much improved in a single night.
Isn't God good? Thank you for praying and trusting God for something "uncommon".

Greetings!
I will be brief. I am fairly upright at the moment ... marking a portion of the minority of the day when I have actually been vertical instead of horizontal. Cold ... flu ... Bubonic Plague ... whatever! Got the cough, the headache, the lightheadedness, the aches and pains, the whole package. I was able to get over to the church to hand out my final exam.

I don't know of much that is newsworthy. The Stalnakers are in OK for a conference and then going on to Ohio to be with their daughter Debbie. Jerry has work this week - one of our prayer requests. I need to feel better and I need my voice back --- I'd appreciate the prayer.

Funeral service for Pat Lambert will be Saturday at 10 (viewing), 11 (service). A light luncheon will follow - a time for folks to fellowship and visit.

A reminder that the music folks will still practice on Saturday, but the time has been moved back to 1:00. If you are coming to the funeral, have a bite to eat and stick around for practice.

Uncommon Things

I preached 2 weeks ago on the subject "God becomes real to us when He is doing uncommon things in common people". The challenge was to open our mouths wide and God would fill them ... to call on Him to show us not only "great and mighty things", but things that are exceeding abundantly above all the we ask or think. In just 9 days, God has been doing some really neat stuff. You'll be hearing about it tomorrow night and in the Sunday afternoon services this month. You won't want to miss the messages -- but the testimonies are going to be a tremendous blessing to you. Be around to see what God is doing ... experience what is God doing!

We will continue our study of Christian Joy on Wednesday night.

The couples retreat (with only one empty room now) is Thursday, Friday and Saturday -- a strengthening and home changing experience for those couples who will be there. Be praying that God will really work in our hearts.

Keep praing for Pat, Noah, Danielle and the kids and the Lindseys ... and Mick Reagan. Oh, Kathryn hurt her back, so prya for her too.

Looking forward to tomorrow

Good afternoon.

Well, I said good-bye to Anna and the kids today. I'll miss them. I trust they find the place where the Lord wants them. The Scotts moved to Vancouver - out of an apartment into a house. Good for them.

Pat is doing poorly and she and Joe need your prayers. Pastor Jerry and Heather's boys have been sick ... now it is Pastor Dan and Heather's two - and Heather, too. Emily was feeling poorly this week as well, as was Neveah. Both Lindsey's have been feeling poorly, so we have lots of folks to pray for. Bill Jackson is feeling better - Praise the Lord. Keep praying for Mark's foot. Healing is the request.

The Couple's Retreat is coming up this next week. This is a time that can permanently change a marriage. Still 2 empty slots ... and they're free. Sorry, I can't understand that. It is one of a number of things I struggle to understand. Perhaps on Sunday we'll have a little "family chat".

Sunday School this week features the first of 2 lessons on Discipline your children instead of Punishing them. Hmmm .... The morning service is from Daniel 6 -- some really great truths there. In the afternoon service, we will continue our new series on Making God Real in Your Life. If you'll commit the time to be there, this series could forever change your relationship with the Lord.

Sickies --- Sayonnara --- See You Soon ...

We got sickies around. Pat is really going through it right now - can't eat or drink anything. Dan and Donna are both sick -- sounds like a really high octane cold. Bill Jackson is still suffering from a really vehement cold, if nothing else. The Jackson kids are both "colding" as well. So - be praying for all our sick folks.

Sayonnara (however that is spelled) -- The Bradleys leave on Saturday for Texas. We'll miss them. The Scotts are moving to Vancouver (Washington) tomorrow. Hopefully, we will not be missing them. We're hoping to hang onto them (Vancouver isn't exactly Texas).

See you soon --- Hey, the Girls Night Out is Thursday night. Chevy's for supper (5:00) followed by Bunco at the church (6:30 at the church). Sounds like a good time! Hope all you 'girls'will be there. Parenting class on Sunday morning -- the first of 2 sessions on Discipline. Sunday morning we will be in Daniel 6 ... with a slight twist on the usual take. The afternoon message will be continuing our study on "Making God Real in your life".

Yesterday was a difficult "tech day" ... my home phone and internet is non-functional until Saturday afternoon. Comcast reliability!!! So - if you've been calling, you haven't been getting me.

Tonight is the big Sweetheart's banquet ... sounds like fun and the food is going to be great. Hope you are coming.

Surprise

I'm adding this post to the blog while folks are traveling (I hope) to the Wednesday night service. BIG week ... calling on Saturday morning and the Sweethearts banquet on Saturday evening. Then, there's Sunday. Parenting study continues in the Adult class (Discipline not Punishment is our topic). The AM service continues in Daniel ("The Handwriting on the Wall") and the Aft service sees the beginning of a brand new - and very important - series ... "Making God Real in Your Life". Something we ALL need.

Out and about: Dr. Townsend will be in Zambia by the time most of you read this ... will be there for 3 weeks. Be praying for him. My mom is moving the end of February and has a number of things she needs to sell --- LazyBoy recliner sofa, Buffet/Breakfront, rocking chair, entertainment center, double bed headboard, footboard, frame and matching dresser with mirror. And some other stuff. Her sale will be on Monday and Tuesday -- but people from the church are invited to drop by Sunday after church if you want to get first chance on anything you might find helpful. Bradley's will be moving back to Texas next week ... they keep saying it's all about the family, but I fear that our violent winter scared them off :-) Keith and Chanda, who read my blog, are having an anniversary - on Valentines Day, I think -- HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. Pastor Stalnaker will get in to see the doctor this Friday and, hopefully, they will be able to take care of his physical problems. Bill Jackson has been in to see a few doctors. We hope they are able to take care of his recent physical ailments also. I must say "Hi" to Pat Lambert. I know she reads the blog and we're praying for you Pat.

Home and Humming

Well, I have returned from Arizona ... as have Dan and Heather (praise the Lord - a long safe drive!) We had a great meeting there. Folks had very receptive and tender hearts ... the Holy Spirit was working in every service ... we saw many decisions, many with tears. I had a young lady (12) come up to me after the Wednesday night message and give me a hug with tears in her eyes ... she said "That's the first time I've ever cried during a message." God was working in hearts. It was great! Thanks to those who faithfully prayed for us as we went to the conference. God honored your prayers.

But ... I'm glad to be home. Back with my wife ... back in my office ... back to my pulpit ... back with the people God has given me to Pastor. So - music practice is tomorrow morning. I would like to remind the folks on the music schedule that the practice time is a necessary part of being prepared to serve the Lord in music. I expect that all of the folks on the music schedule will be faithful to be present for this vital practice time.

Hey --- I've got 3 openings for the couples retreat. No - I can't believe it either. However, we have a number of couples who could use this retreat (including some who can't go). If you can arrange to be there, you will benefit from the $20 deposit that others have put down ... we'll deduct it from your bill. Also, some of the folks have moved up into the more expensive rooms, so the rooms available now are VERY reasonable .... with your discount, you can have the 2 nights for $80 or $90. News from Payson

Hi All -
Well the Lord has been blessing here in Payson. The church here is truly going through a difficult time financially, but God is really moving in the meetings. I've spoken 3 times (yet to speak on Wednesday night) and God has given great freedom to preach and has moved in a number of hearts ... thank you for your prayers. This is not my ministry, it is our ministry as a church to this sister church. Thanks for caring for the work here, as well as at home. Thank you for your faithfulness this past Sunday. I understand we had visitors and most of our own folks were in their place. I'm pleased ... and I'm sure the Lord is also.

Thanks to at least 3 folks who were kind enough to respond to my question: Why do folks come to TCB? This is not, as some of you assume, just an exercise. I am gathering information with a purpose. So, if you haven't responded yet --- I'd still appreciate a brief response.

Pastor Dan and Heather are doing well. Noah has a cold, but seems to be rallying. Rachel is my fan club here --- every preacher needs a fan club.

I have not been so overwhelmingly busy at this conference (other than the preaching schedule). Usually, my days are filled with appointments. This time, I have only 3 for the week, so it is not so taxing on what has to be considered an older, weaker mind.

I miss my wife most of all ... but I miss you all and am looking forward to being back in the pulpit there on Sunday. By the way, the messages (all 4) that I am preaching here, will be on Sermonaudio next week, so you will have a chance to hear them.

Leavin on my mind

HI all -
Well, in my last post, I asked for a response from you all. I got one response (via phone) plus an attempt to bargain to get the Wednesday night discount, without showing up on Wednesday night. Nope. Just a special offer for the folks who were faithful to be there ... 51 this past week, in fact.

I actually have a reason for asking for your response, so I'll ask for it again. What is it that compels you to come to TCB. What are you looking for in your life that you find here? Why TCB instead of some other place (church or not)? A brief answer will do, but let me hear from you.

Pastor Dan and Heather are in the Mojave desert as I write these words. Should be 7 or 8 hours out of Payson. Things are going well, except for the Sequoia National Forest --- I'll let them tell you about that.

Pray for me as I speak in Payson. Pray for the church there. Pray for the folks that come to the meetings. Pray that the Spirit of God will work. Pray for the services here on Sunday ... for Bro. Dan Lindsey, Dave Bradley and for Pastor Jerry as he preaches on Sunday and Wednesday night and fills in for the pastor throughout my time away. He stands ready to help with any needs you have while I am gone.

I'll miss you all. My wife will be here while I am gone. She doesn't get to go to this meeting with me, unfortunately.

Various and Sundry --- You Reply

Good Tuesday to you all -
This is an update and an opportunity for you to RESPOND. (Hint)
First, the doctors have told Pat and Joe that the cancer is growing quickly and that means Pat has a limited time. That is the doctor's opinion - maybe right, maybe wrong. Pat is still in the hand of the Lord and we'll see what His purpose and plan might be.
Second, the ELC book APPROVED BY MAN is now in hand. Dr. Townsend did a wonderful job on the design and layout of the book. Due to increased costs (and the inflated dollar) this book will sell for $20. However, I have a special offer for those faithful folks who attend on Wednesday night: $15 for a book - Wednesday night only. So ... if you're coming tomorrow night and want a book ...
Third, put on your thinking caps. Why do people come to Town Center Baptist church? What is it they are looking for? What prompts them to come to church? Why do you come? No long, complex answers -- give me a sentence or two. I need your response.
Finally, we have a baptism scheduled for February 8. We have 2 folks being baptized that afternoon. If you need to follow the Lord in baptism, this is your opportunity. You can respond to any invitation or talk to the pastor personally.

Pray and Consider

Good Afternoon -
A few thoughts from me to you -- things to pray for and to consider:
Thanks for praying for Norma and me. We are both feeling much better and are functioning.
We are taking up a "food shower" offering for the Stalnakers this evening. This will be in addition to the regular offering. Since they are going to be in our service tonight, we will be able to send the funds home with them so they can buy some groceries.
I trust you have been praying for Bob Meyers and Trish ... and their family. Bob's dad died unexpectedly on Tuesday. At this point, they are hoping for the funeral service in Newburg on Saturday morning. I will be preaching and would appreciate your prayers that the Holy Spirit will guide in choosing the message and that God will speak to the hearts of those who are there. Pray that God will comfort those who know Him - and that He will speak to those who are lost.
Pat has been feeling poorly even though she was able to get a fluid drain on Monday --- please pray fervently for Pat.
Pray for each other ... just pray for our church family. You have no greater ministry than to be often and intense in your prayers for one another.

Bitten by the Bug

HI All -
Been a tough week. My wife got bitten by the flu bug on Sunday night ... I waited until Monday night to succumb. I thought I had it mostly whipped on Tuesday, but as the day progressed I regressed ... had to cancel the Bible Insitute (sorry). Then, on Wednesday I really thought I had beaten this stuff. But, as the day wore on, I wore out! By church time, I was really feeling poorly. We had a great crowd on Wednesday night -- thanks -- and I had the opportunity to share some very special thoughts the Lord had laid on my heart to share with our folks. I am sorry that some of you could not be there. I felt it was an important message. I don't know if anyone else thought it was important or not --- but the Lord and I did and that, I guess, is sufficient.

Back to my sad story ... Thursday I decided to be a little brighter about this thing. I decided to lay down and just get over it. So I did. Got up Friday morning (late) went to the office and .... came home after a couple of hours. I am, all in all, feeling much improved, but haven't shaken this stuff yet.

Norma? She wasn't even up to going to the Girls Night Out, which she was really looking forward to. (Heard they had a really good time!) Now she had developed this nagging, irritating cough. She's better, but not there yet.

I'm sitting here listening to the wind whipping around the house (we aren't supposed to be having any tonight) and thinking about our church and our folks and how good the Lord has been to us. Let's be grateful and be faithful.

Oh - Circuit City will be closing, so we will be needing a big financial boost for our move into the new facility on 82nd Ave :-) Hey ... God has done bigger things than that in the past.

Odds and Ends

Hi there -
Yesterday was a good day - the Word went out, the Holy Spirit was working - although we were short on attendance. We missed some of you.

My wife decided to do battle with the flu last night -- she lost. She is feeling somewhat improved today, however, for which we are thankful.

Received an email from Pastor Garissi. His brother was in a sledding accident and they fear he may be paralyzed. That went out on the prayer chain - so be praying.

I am altering my Wednesday night message. I had intended to continue on the series on "How to Have Joy" ... I will continue it next week. This Wednesday, however, the emphasis is going to be on the prayertime. Before the prayertime, I want to share with you some thoughts from my heart. I may not even have an outline ... I may just "wing it" as the Lord lays it on my heart. I would consider this Wednesday of some importance ... so I trust you will consider it important, as well.

Resource Wednesday has been called off for the moment ... we will hope to resume within a week or two.

The Latest

Hi All --
Well, the Saturday weather turned out to be a mere 34 degrees, so visitation was officially called off. A word of thanks to Pastor Jerry and Joe Lambert who braved the weather and went out anyhow. My wife and I contented ourselves to making visits, instead of going door to door. Bill Jackson showed up, but was "all dressed up with no place to go" ... thanks anyway Bill.

The Bradley's have returned. We're glad to have them back ... and that means Resource Wednesday is back in action starting this week.

The Stalnakers should be arriving on January 19th (Monday) and will be needing some unloading help ... strong backs are preferred. We'll try to organize a group to go help unload the truck that afternoon. It will be a blessing to have the Stalnakers close by.

Lucille is sick ... Donna has been sick ... the Pechs have been sick -- in spite of the fact I instructed folks to not get the flu. Dogonnit, some people just won't listen. I guess we'll just have to pray for them. Leah still hasn't gotten her ankle taken care of, so we need to pray for her, as well. Vicki is down with her dad for a few days. Keep her and her dad in prayer.

The Sunday School lessons on Parenting and the Wednesday night studies are both going up on sermonaudio.com/drjrw. Usually we do not put the MW and SS studies online, but we had requests to do so (from people outside of our church). So, for at least these two studies, we will be putting up all weekly messages.

Challenge given

Sunday was a good day ... good attendance, pretty good offering, good music, good spirit. And the challenge was thrown down --- a challenge to change from what we have been to what we ought to be. A challenge to make a genuine commitment that goes beyond an amen on Sunday ... that goes beyond a pat on the preacher's back or a handshake ... a genuine commitment that carries through in action. Inviting folks. Renewed faithfulness. Financial sacrifice. Knocking on doors. Looking for the place of service that God has opened to you. The challenge is there, but it is just empty encouragement unless we pick up the challenge and become what God wants us to be.

Looking forward to the new Wednesday night series --- "How to have Joy". Starts tonight.
Oh, a new Sunday morning series, too --- "Daniel: the man and his message". Prophecy aside, we have a lot to learn from Daniel the man.

No Blizzard ... New Year ... No Excuses

My theme for the new year is "no excuses" ... I want our church family to concentrate this year on giving it our all for the Lord. Not for me. Not for the church. For the Lord. I want you to go out of your way to invite folks - no matter where you live. I want you to extend yourself to be out to the music practices ... to be out to visitation twice a month ... to be faithful on Wednesday night. I want you to take advantage of every opportunity to fellowship and grow. Retreats, banquets, fun night, special meetings ... I want you to be there. To enjoy the fellowship. To enjoy spending time with the family of God. You say, "Pastor, I can't afford the gas". I'll give you gas money! I want you to learn the joy of fellowship and service.

I'm starting a short series on Wednesday night on HOW TO HAVE JOY. We know we should have joy ... and that God makes it available ... but we live without it most of the time. I want you to have JOY this year. In spite of all that is going on around us, I want us to experience true joy. I want 2009 to be the best for you and your family ... and our church.

I Miss You ... But You're Missing Something

Hi ... I haven't disappeared and the Blog was down for almost a whole day because we had to pay the 6 month fee for the website. Jim was taking care of it for us and we missed by one day. However, we're back.

Had a wonderful Christmas ... my mom, my wife, all 3 kids with their spouses and all 4 grandkids. What a great blessing it was to be here. Sorry to be missing from TCB, but this was a wonderful and rare opportunity. As much as we enjoyed the time, we miss our church family. I missed preaching. I missed singing. I missed my wife's piano playing. I missed seeing you all. I missed the fellowship and the love that we feel each Sunday. I didn't miss the snow!!!!!!!!!!! (You all are getting rid of it for our return ... right?)

I talked to Pastor Dan ... he tells me attendance was pretty good and folks were faithful to the work they had to do. I am so grateful to hear that. He also tells me that we are expecting a good turnout for the Watchnight Service -- I am happy to hear that. We may have a surprise for you that night ... stay tuned.

My heading says that you are missing something. Sorry that I have to address this. We have had 2 Sundays where the majority of our folks didn't get out to church - and their offering didn't make it either. So ... this Sunday represented 3 weeks worth of offerings for those who have been unable to get to church. Because expenses continue --- heat bills are high, electric bills are high, staff needs to be paid, Sunday School material needs to be bought ... the work needs to go on and be supported during this time. The offering today was $360. We will need to do more than pray about the offering - we need to be faithful. Hopefully, I don't need to say anymore. I have no idea what the box looks like - that is God's business and I don't worry about that. I do know what the church offering was -- and, although that too is God's business, He has committed this flock to me. I am to love you and care for you and feed you and lead you ... and make you aware of your responsibility to God and His work. That would be the purpose of this paragraph.

A Little Help Here

Good Monday to you all ...
I feel like I was lured here under false pretenses ... this ain't supposed to happen here in Portland! A few words of thanks to the folks who made it out to services yesterday ... Pastor Dan and Heather, Rachel and Noah, Pastor Jerry and Heather, Silas and Alton, Pastor and Mrs. Stalnaker, Dale and Andrew, Luke and Rachel, Howard L. and John, Lucille and my wife and I. 19 I think. So thanks to you folks for making the day a special day in spite of the weather.

I need to put 2 things before you for your consideration ....
First, when we have 2 weeks of this kind of attendance, we have had a total of 50% of one weeks offering for the church. That kind of financial bind - in the midst of the expenses for heating, etc., is cause for prayerful concern. Let's pray that the weather opens up so we can have a regular service this coming Sunday ... and let's pray that folks will make up what they have been unable to give.
Second, my wife and I and my mom are scheduled to fly to Atlanta this Wednesday. I think this will probably be my mom's last trip east and perhaps her last time to see all of the grandkids and great grandkids at one place at one time (It is also our opportunity to see the kids all at once). We would appreciate your prayers that we will be able to make that trip.

Have a wonderful holiday season ... and let us look to the New Year with enthusiasm and a renewed determination to make Town Center Baptist into the church God wants it to be.

Ah yes, the title. My compliments to those folks who came out on Wednesday night to study the Word and pray together. Not a large group, but a real blessing to see them here. My compliments, as well, to the ladies who came out on Thursday night to fellowship. We had a new young lady from our neighborhood who came over. We're praying that we will have opportunity to reach out to her and her family.

This is the day ...

That's what the Bible teaches -- this is the day the Lord hath made and we are to rejoice and be glad in it. Why? Because God made it this way and He always does the right thing. Snow, ice, rain, sunshine -- God sends us what best suits His purposes (even if it doesn't always suit OUR purposes). I have been fervently praying about the weather, but have fervently prayed that the Lord would bring us the weather that best suits His purpose for us. I'd like to just pray for 50 degree weather --- but that may not be what He wants for us.

The Stalnakers are planning to come in tomorrow, weather permitting, so pray for them as they travel. Dr. Townsend tells me the book has gone to the printers and should be finished in January. Have not heard from the Wilhites lately, so continue to pray for them. The Butlers are still deputating, so pray for them as they travel.

On the home front, Leah is still waiting to get in to see a specialist. Pray that the Lord would expedite the matter for her. Vicki continues to be sick with a robust cold. I know she would appreciate your prayers. Pat is still retaining fluid, but it doesn't seem to be building up, as I understand it. Everyone else is holding out well, as far as I know.

Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and we'll have a good group out for the service tonight. A special word of appreciation to the folks who braved the weather to be here on Sunday. I appreciate your efforts and I'm sure the Lord does, as well.

Pat Lambert's Naturopath has discovered fluid building up in her abdomen again ... make this a matter of prayer.
We're getting a lot of work done around the building so far ... we're ready to install the new lights when they arrive and the night will no longer be dark for those who follow the right path (i.e. the sidewalk).
I need you to spread the word about the upcoming Parenting class. I believe this could be an open door to get some new folks in, because this is a needful area of instruction and many parents are distressed and wanting help.

Although we were missing a number of folks yesterday, I thought the services were good and the spirit was excellent. The afternoon song service, in particular, was a real blessing to me ... and hopefully to you.
Dave's plane left Chicago on schedule, so, assuming he was on it, he should be here on schedule. Before the week is over, we should have the new lighting installed and a couple of other issues dealt with. Dave will be staying until Saturday, so those of you that are here on Wednesday will get the chance to see him. It would be a nice gesture if you would thank him for coming. It's a long way to come and help us.
I think we caught Pastor Jerry off guard yesterday with our "Happy Anniversary" call. Good for us. I hope he remembered to tell Heather!!
I'm really tired today. Long week last week and I'm getting to old to function without a day of every couple of weeks. You young people won't understand ... now.

Dr. Townsend was in good form Thursday night -- if you weren't here, I'm sorry you missed it.
We were able to go through the entire book. Found a few mistakes -- changed a few things -- rewrote a paragraph or two. In the main, it was in pretty good shape and is going to be a good read for pastors and people alike!
Dr. T left this morning at 9:00. Seeing as how they are having big snow up in his area, I hope he can get home. We bought him a ticket to Chicago so he didn't have to fly stand-by ... we were afraid hewouldn't make it home for Sunday.
Good things ahead. Lots of people traveling. God, however, promised to be here, so ya'll be faithful.

Well, Dr. T was supposed to be here yesterday -- but he couldn't get here. He is supposed to be here today and, as I write, he is on a flight from Denver to PDX. Should arrive in time for the evening service, so I hope you are planning to be here. I'd just hate it if he worked so hard to get here and then you all didn't show up to hear him! Worked hard? Yep -- flew from Traverse to Chicago to Des Moines to Denver to Portland ... and he really hates to fly.

All the arrangements are made for the couples retreat -- you can sign up on Sunday, with your $20 deposit. The remainder of your "motel" money will be due and payable on February 11. The retreat is February 26-27-28. We'll have one special activity on Thursday night. Friday we'll have breakfast, 2 shorter sessions, go out for lunch, and then have time off (the beach?) before a late afternoon session, a wonderful (Trish-special) supper and a final session. Saturday morning --- breakfast, 2 short session and lunch together. Then you are free to spend the rest of the day at the beach (if you wish) discussing what you've learned at the retreat.

Sounds good to me.

Trying to stay busy

Greetings -
Well, we're trying to stay busy this week. We made plans for the Thanksgiving service today ... and made a chorus book for everyone. We redid the church brochure and printed it for hand out on Thursday night. Oh ... Thursday, by the way, is THANKSGIVING DAY. For those of us who will be up most of Thursday night, Friday could be a semi-lost day. The upstairs will be busy with 2 or 3 families staying there on Thursday night. Next week, Dr. Townsend will be there. The week after, my son-in-law Dave will be there, while working on the building. Brother Talkington, you will recall, was there last week (after the Bridges were there the day before). So, God is allowing us to be a blessing with the Prophet's Chamber.

I'm looking forward to a really great Thanksgiving Eve service ... I always particularly enjoy that service. I hope we have a good crowd and truly get into "the attitude of gratitude." It will be a great hour (or so) together.

Those who are going to the Singing Christmas Tree will benefit from a slightly better seat than we had originally planned for. We will actually be on the ground floor (Yes -- in the back -- but you can see and hear great from those seats). I'm looking forward to it.

Pastor Dan got the guys a deal from the Trailblazers ... No more "nosebleed" seats. No sirree --- we get decent lower bowl seats for $35 --- and we get a $10 food certificate with the ticket. Game is on March 13. Save a couple of bucks a week and you'll have the cash you need.

The couples retreat will be the final weekend of February. Final cost is almost ready to announce ... we will be at Cannon Beach. It's going to be nice ... it's going to be reasonable ... it's going to be helpful ... it's going to be fun ... and I can only take 8 couples! Sorry, that's all the accommodations I have for this first couples retreat. We'll be taking you sign ups soon, so talk it over with your spouse. You don't wan to miss this - I promise.

A Great Night

Hello All -
We had a great night on Friday. It was our family fun night --- a movie and pie and cobbler! The pies were good (I only sampled 3, so I can't vouch for the rest) ... the cobblers looked and smelled terrific. The movie was "Facing the Giants". Hopefully, everyone came away with a message God laid on their hearts. The theme of the movie was "nothing is impossible with God". It applied to families, finances ... every area of life. However, the movie was about a team. I kept thinking of the TCB "team". God can do anything with a group of people who are willing to seek His glory and work together to do great things for Him. So ... where are we? Truly striving for the glory of God? Making His work a priority in our lives? Seeking our place in the work of God here?
God can do anything ... but He requires our obedience and participation.

We are making plans to replace the lights in the auditorium ... not only will they not flicker -- they will look nice.
Bro. Talkington is safely in and will be presenting his burden for Germany this evening -- I really want as many as possible to be here.
Praise the Lord for a good offering on Sunday, in spite of the economy. God can supply.
The painting on the outside of the auditorium is done and it looks GREAT!!!

It's Been a Week

Friday finally! What a week this has been.
Almost everyone was sick at some time during the week ... we canceled Resource Wednesday because of all the sickies ... had 21 on Wednesday night (thank goodness for those folks who remained well) ... Donna has been sick... Silas wen to the hospital ... my mother's car broke down, then on Friday she broke down (couldn't use her left arm --- seems to be doing better now) ... I'm still working on the afternoon message (and the sermonaudio stuff) ... and I could go on.
There were some blessings, of course. The back door was sealed up (thanks Dale) ... we had 21 on Wednesday night (Hey - I'm thankful for the folks that were there) ... the Lord has been answering prayer on behalf of our sick folks ... filings went through for the Salt Lake City church ... I got a call from a church in Manitoba, Canada that needs our help ... Pastor Jerry and Luke were out calling Tuesday ... and I got an email from a lady I haven't seen or heard from for 10 years saying that the ministry my wife and I had in her life has had a lasting impact. Well, Praise the Lord.
Every week has its bad segments (at least from the human side) --- but God never leaves us without a blessing and we always have much for which to praise Him.

The elections are over and Barack Obama has been elected. Although we may be chagrined by the election results, it is important that we watch the way we speak around our children. The President is a person in authority ... the office, not the person, deserves our respect. If we fail to show proper respect for the office of president, we should not be surprised if our children fail to show proper respect to the office of Pastor or teacher ... or parent! We must set the example of respectful speech when speaking of an office that deserves the respect.

This is an area where we need to show consistency to our youth.

Thanksgiving night (27th) we'll be serving coffee and cookies and handing our tracts to the folks in the "Black Friday" line at Circuit City -- an all night ministry ...

My Gift to You

I have a gift for you, but first a couple of thoughts -
We had our first study on the law of Sowing and Reaping last night. This is a scriptural, unchangeable law that can be a great blessing, if we understand it as God presented it. Hopefully, the study last night was a good start.
It was good to see our visitors back on Wednesday night ... a couple more visits and they won't be visitors anymore ... just part of the family.
NOW FOR YOUR GIFT ... I give you an extra hour of rest this weekend. That's right, turn your clocks back before you go to bed on Saturday night and enjoy the extra hour of sleep --- then you shouldn't need to sleep in church and you should be rested for the after church volley ball and fellowship time!!!

What a Great Day

WE had a great day yesterday. The attendance was good - morning and afternoon (almost a record breaker in the afternoon service), the music was excellent ... the Chorale, the Ladies of Song and the River of Life Trio --- and the congregational singing was outstanding, as well. Good to have some folks back who have been missing, along with our guests (from the neighborhood, praise the Lord).
For those who missed the All Church Hang Time --- well, you missed it. The kids loved the pinata, the cider and donuts were tasty and the volleyball went on and on and on! People kept coming to replace the ones who were leaving. The games went on until 6:00 or so -- and, at the request of our guests, we're going to play volleyball next Sunday afternoon after the service.
Noah is OK, Pat is feeling somewhat better and Dan and Donna got off for their coastal escape.
The offering was not as good as usual, but the Lord has taken care of us all so far!!!
Let's be praising the Lord for such a great day --- and praying for another just like it.

A special surprise for all of you who faithfully check every day to see if I have blogged ... I did for the second day in a row.

Sunday morning, we will continue our series on Dealing with Deception in Sunday School, followed by the AM service preaching from the wonderful 10th chapter of Romans. Revelation 19 in the afternoon --"Behold, He Cometh".

After the afternoon service, we have an "All Church Hang Time" ... a pinata for the kids, cider and doughnuts for everyone, and volleyball for all of those who are physically able. The biggest thing is - we have a time to just visit and fellowship. Plan to stay for the afternoon.

Keep praying for Pat and Erin and anyone else you know that is sick. Hoping that everyone will be well for Sunday. Pray for Bob and Trish - traveling to see the grandkids (it's a tough job, but someone has to do it).

Just wanted to spread the word about some upcoming opportunities ....
First, though, a word of appreciation to the folks who have been so faithful on Wednesday night. We've been over 40 the past 2 weeks --- and I was gone one of those weeks. Good work.
Second, there are some things coming up I want to promote ....
1/ The Bible Institute resumes this week with the Old Testament Survey course. This is a basic Bible course for everyone. I hope you will avail yourself of this opportunity to learn and grow.
2/ The Wednesday night study for the next 3 weeks will be on the subject "The Law of Sowing and Reaping" ... this could be a very special study and help you in almost every area of your Christian life. I trust you will rearrange your schedule to be there.

I will be leaving here tonight to go to Kansas City and spend the night there. I fly tomorrow back to Portland, arriving about 5:00 (if I remember correctly).
I will be preaching here in Missouri tonight, so please be praying for that service. Pastor Dan will be preaching at our service there, so be faithful and be praying for the service.
Haven't heard how all the "sickies" are doing ... I know Erin is still sick and Cleon seems to be on the mend. Beyond that, nothing definitive on anyone. I've been praying for all our sick folks.

Hello from way out in the sticks

Greetings Blog readers (all 4 of you) -
Just a quick word of greeting from here in Missouri! Got into KC about 4:30 ... got here to the hill country about 9:00. No internet service here, but I was rescued by my trusty Verizon card. So ... it ain't that real high speed internet, but it is reasonable, at least for email -- and blogging.
Had a good day yesterday. Attendance was down ... especially in the afternoon. The Lord provided an offering sufficient for the needs (Praise the Lord) and I believe the Holy Spirit was at work in both services. A number of people mentioned that the SS lesson was going to be helpful -- and appreciated the fact that we slowed down to take time for questions. So - that's the plan. Slow down, make more comments to help explain and field those questions. Maybe it will take us 6 or 8 weeks to do this section on Dealing with Deception. It's OK -- as Delbert said, "We have until the rapture."
Be praying for our folks ... a lot of sickness going around ... Emily, Cleon, Erin, Noah, Rachel, Rachel, Pat ... add anyone else you know that is sick.

Where do we go from here?

It's Tuesday afternoon and all is well.
Tonight is the first night of this year's Bible Institute year ... we begin with the 2 week course on "Powerful Praying" ... This is a course that I wish every person in our church would take. We need to learn the importance of prayer ... and to learn how to pray. Prayer is the key to the work we want to do for the Savior here. If we don't get serious about praying, we will miss the blessings God has for us.
It is time that we mobilize! We have been lackadaisical too long. We treat visitation lightly - we treat prayer meeting lightly - we treat our giving lightly. We have been happy to see what God has been willing to do through others, without committing ourselves to being usable and available for what God wants to do through each of us. Where do we go from here? Forward, if we are willing. Forward to grow and reach out and be a force for Christ in our community --- if we are willing. So ... are we willing?

Reporting From Utah

Good morning, all.

I'm still praising the Lord for this past Sunday. What a great day! We had a number of visitors, the music was good, the spirit in the afternoon service was just excellent and the Spirit of God was working on hearts. Good things are ahead, if we will be faithful to the Lord and do His work.

I'm improving, although not yet over this. My voice is about 80% and held up through 3 hours of questions and answer on Monday night. I met with the men and then with the elders and was able to explain a lot and calm some of their concerns. I am working yesterday and today on the needed paperwork to restore the church to the Lordship of Christ and will be meeting with the congregation tonight. I will be speaking for 30 minutes to present the Biblical and legal issues of incorporation and will then answer questions for as long as needed. The folks here are very kind and I have enjoyed them.

I found out that there are 5 Slavic Evangelical Baptist Churches in Oregon, Washington and, I believe, Idaho, that are in this same position. I have agreed to meet with representatives from all 5 churches at a central location on the last Saturday of October or the first Saturday of November. They will choose the location and the date. We are being recommended to those churches by our brethren here and by the overseer of the churches from Russia. I am pleased that the Lord has opened this door of service for ELC and - thereby - our church.

Pray for my voice ... and the rest of me. Pray that the Lord will go before us into the meeting tonight and He will allow me to make everything plain for all to understand.

I miss you all (my wife especially) and look forward to being home on Thursday afternoon. The Sunday School lessons for the next 3 or 4 weeks will continue our series on witnessing and these lessons will be entitled "Dealing with Deception". An attempt to help you communicate the gospel to those who have been deceived by false religion. We will be in Romans 7 in the AM and Revelation 14 in the AFT, unless the Lord directs otherwise.

I Need Your Help

This is a plea for help from those who are kind enough to read the blog...
1/ I have been sick ... down and out sick ... the past couple of days and need to be well by Sunday. I need you to really pray that God will heal this whatever it is. Not only is it important for me to feel good for Sunday ... but I leave for Utah on Monday to help a church there.
2/ I need you all to be inviting folks ... not just at visitation on Saturday (when most of you will read this) but calling folks on the phone and inviting people.
3/ I need you there on Sunday. This could be a special and exciting day in the life of our church, but I need you to be there. For the whole day.
4/ Pray fervently about what the Lord would have you to give -- and give what He lays on your heart, in the plate and in the box.

All Together Now

That's the hope of Round Up Sunday. We want to get all of our folks together - all at one time. If we can get everybody well and back from travels and in the services this Sunday, along with some of the visitors that have been coming this last 3 or 4 weeks ... well, it could be quite a Sunday. The Sunday School will continue to focus on soulwinning. Both the morning and afternoon messages will be special for Round Up Sunday. Be praying for the Lord's direction for the messages -- and that the Holy Spirit will work in hearts and lives through God's Word.

Pat continues to progress, but needs our prayers. Everyone seems to be on the mend. Trish hasn't been feeling well, pray for her. The travelers are back and the hunters aren't leaving yet. The building will be substantially painted by this Sunday ... don't know about all the trim, but the building itself is painted as of today (Tuesday). Praise the Lord for that. A word of special thanks to Ron for all his time and effort.

Looking forward to seeing a bunch of you tomorrow night at prayer meeting. We're going to talk about Heaven.

Stepping out on a limb ...

As we begin our third year, we move into the "growth" zone ... we are looking to reach out beyond our four walls and reach folks. It is a year for a little daring --
Round Up Sunday is September 28 --- I'm trying to round up ALL of our folks for one Sunday, plus round up everyone else we can. We'll be going door to door in the neighborhood on Saturday the 27 and we need you to be there to help us. Big cookout after the afternoon service ... be thinking about what you can sign up to bring.
Speaking of stepping out on a limb ---
There will be a Ladies Conference at the Rose Garden on Oct 10-11. For that Friday night (7-9:30) and the following Saturday (9-5) the cost will be$65. I will warn you that not everyone will be quoting the King James Bible, you won't agree with EVERYTHING someone says, some of the music will not be to your taste ... so why am I encouraging our ladies to go? Why am I sending my wife? Because it will be a day and a half for the ladies with words of encouragement, fun, fellowship, laughter, teaching ... with the emphasis on Infinite Grace. In other words, I think it will be both enjoyable and a great blessing for our ladies. If you are interested --- I need to hear from you within the next week.
Furthermore ... the "Singing Christmas Tree" returns to Keller Auditorium this year. I can see some of you with your scowl already. Well, Dan and Donna and my wife and I went last year and the music and the production was FANTASTIC. My wife and I went to the Phantom of the Opera -- the music and production was FANTASTIC. In other words, even though there was no great Christian emphasis at the Phantom, I enjoyed the evening and the entertainment. Hence, I believe that even those who do not celebrate Christmas can enjoy the program. It isn't expensive $12-15 per person, I think, and I think we could take a group and just be pleased with the fellowship and the musical production. So ... you're invited to go along.
OK ... I'm far enough out on a limb for today. Maybe we'll go out on another limb later.
Hannah Scott is doing better. Pastor Stalnaker is better and has left the building. Pat is still a little weak, but definitely improving. Erin is showing signs of improvement as well.

Monday afternoon news ....

Good afternoon. As I write these words this afternoon, I pass along little tidbits of news that I thought might interest you ---
Erin Pech has been down with pneumonia, but - as of this afternoon - seemed to be improving. Martha is pleased and so are we.
Pastor Stalnaker took sick in Bremerton, WA and is at the VA hospital here in Portland as I write. Sandy seems to think it is a return of his previous bout with shingles ... we've been praying for our brother. Hopefully, a little medicine will relieve the pain and discomfort and the Stalnakers will be onto their meetings this week. The Stalnakers will be guest in our prophet's chamber on Monday and Tuesday night, before a long trek that will take them eastward.
The picnic yesterday afternoon at the Lewis house was wonderful. The food was good (great pickles and the smoked turkey was delightful), we had a good group of folks out and the fellowship was great. Thanks to those who came.
I'm still waiting for late word on the current condition of Hannah and McKenzie ... both were a little "under the weather" yesterday ... hope they are both better today.
Did you hear? Noah is detached from his oxygen during the daytime now! Is that an almost immmediate answer to prayer or what?
We had visitors in each service yesterday -- that's always a blessing and something to be praising the Lord for.

Good morning.
You may have noticed the little google ad on our blog site ... may have to get rid of it. I'm trying to find out if I can control the content (Bible software, Christian books, etc) or if I have to let google put up whatever they think we need. We'll see.

Of greater importance are these items you need to be aware of:
1 - Erin has pneumonia (of the walking variety) ... please be praying for her
2 - Pat is up and around some ... at least back to cooking ... so continue to pray for her strength and continued recovery
3 - Mick is home from the hospital. That tends to indicate an improvement in the condition that hospitalized him, but he still needs our prayers.
4 - A number of our folks are traveling this weekend (end of summer escape, I think) and we need to pray for their safety -- Howard and Debbie, the Nodurfts and the Harrises.
5 - As I am writing this, Ron is scraping on the building - a final step before the paint job. Pray for Ron to be safe ... and continue to pray that the Lord will provide 'paying' work for Ron. (This job only pays in blessings and appreciation!)
6 - Pastor Dan and Heather celebrate their 5th anniversary tomorrow --- Happy Anniversary!
7 - It was good to have Rich and Sarah and Hannah with us again on Wednesday night. I hope all of our church family catches that vision.
8 - As we move into our third year, I feel we have accomplished a lot of things: a changed attitude toward the church, a better spirit among the people, taking care of the house of God, creating a friendly atmosphere in our community .... and now it is time to move on. This next year, we are going to move into our "growth" phase. Our emphasis has been on us --- now it must be on those outside. Stay tuned.

Back and Running

Greetings! We're back from an anniversary get-away. We had a wonderful time!
Pastor Dan was taking care of things in my absence - Mick is in the VA hospital (can't keep anything down) and Pastor Dan was up to see him last night. Thanks, Pastor Dan, for keeping the flock in my absence. I appreciate you.
Speaking of appreciating people, how about Rich Scott sitting in on the sound system for us on Sunday morning. And Heather Z. had to do double duty - Noah's mom and sound person - in the afternoon. Thanks for the help, Heather.
Things are pretty well set for the building painting ... let's just pray that the weather holds so we can get the painting done before the rain comes!
For those of you who don't know, Pastor Jerry is out calling almost every Tuesday. He is in the home of every visitor. Good job, Pastor Jerry. I hope you all appreciate our two young guys and their heart for the work here.
The offering suffered a little this week again ... it is vital that you keep praying for the offerings and the box.
Pat is on the mend - slowly. Continue to pray for her. Word also reached me that Erin has been down sick. Pray for her, also.

Hello Out There

Well, it has been a while since we blogged. A lot has happened since we last met here. Pat Lambert had surgery and is improving. The lump that was discovered today was prayed over and proved to be nothing of import! (I believe that would be classified as an answer to prayer!). The campout has come and gone for another year. Everyone involved seemed to have a good time. Delbert has reserved spots for next year, although the church services will be modified. I played 3 games of softball - one in the rain. My body hates me! I, however, enjoyed it.

We were pleased to see 9 visitors in our services at the building on Sunday. The Scott family joined us at the campground and seemed to enjoy the fellowship. Rich may make it possible for us to upload video to sermon audio once a week or so. Last month, we had over 1000 downloads from sermon audio - praise the Lord for the opportunity.

Our adult Sunday School class is on a 10 week study called "This Little Light of Mine" ... personal evangelism is the topic --- how to be a candle in a dark world. You don't have to be a floodlight, but you should shed some light. This will teach you how.

I think I'll go to bed now. I hope to see you on Wednesday night.

Home at last

It was about 1:30 am (Friday) when I got back home (4:30 am in Michigan). Glad to be here.
The conference was great. Wonderful messages by Dr. Townsend, Bro. Mott, Pastors Jonker and Boffey, Hoover and Marshall. Wow. Some great doctrinal messages (like Bro. Mott's message on the "Agony of Jesus") and some wonderful fellowship. How God blessed the conference - wish you could have been there ... or it could have been here!
I had an opportunity to sit and chat with Pat for a half-hour or so today. The Lord knows what He is doing - we'll find out later.
Thanks to my staff for taking care of things while I was away. They do good work - I hope you appreciate them.
Norma is still in Atlanta helping with Victoria Layne (9 lbs 2 oz, 21 1/2 inches long) and being a help to mommy. She will be back home on Tuesday. I can't wait.
Thanks to the folks who worked around the property during our absence. I truly appreciate all you do, whether it is carpentry, lawn mowing, watering the plants .... it is all important to the Lord and to me. Thank you.

Hello From Michigan

Greetings. I heard the services yesterday went well - praise the Lord. I also heard we had visitors in our services, which is another praise the Lord. The offering suffered ... by more than half ... so this is an area where we need prayer (and faithfulness).
As for our trip, most of you are aware by now that my wife went south, when I went north. It was nothing personal ... just one of those mother/grandmother things. She is enjoying the new grandbaby (Victoria Layne) and is trying to fill a need in the home there. Lord willing, she will be back in Portland a week from Tuesday. I, on the other hand, will arrive on Thursday night - late.
I miss you all. Enjoyed the services here. Was glad to get the opportunity to preach. God seemed to move and folks seemed to be helped by the messages, for which we praise the Lord. Good to visit with the folks here. It will be good to get back to "my" people.

Prepare to Be Faithful

Prayer meeting is tonight. We will, of course be having our Bible study, but prayer is the real focus. Come and be faithful to the Lord. Sunday we will be teaching on Crying Out to God, Justification and continuing our series in Revelation. Come and be faithful to the Lord.
Next week, I will be in Michigan for some book editing, preaching at Dr. Townsend's church and the ELC conference. Pastor Dan and Pastor Jerry will be filling the pulpit and Bro. Dan Lindsey will be teaching my SS class. Come and be faithful to the Lord.
We have special needs right in regards to the law center conference. God knows what those needs are, but we need you to be praying for the conference, the law center and Dr. Townsend and your pastor. Pray and be faithful to the Lord.
What does God require of us, but that we be faithful to Him? Not a thing!

What a great day we had yesterday. Attendance was over 80 in the morning and the afternoon attendance was very good, as well. It was a blessing to dedicate little Noah to the Lord and his parents to the work of training and raising him. The time around the Lord's supper was especially sweet ... and the examination time after the message was truly a time when we could see the Spirit of God working and doing wonderful things.

God is at work. Praise the Lord. Keep on being faithful.

Moving On

Well, the Missions weekend was a tremendous time in the life of TCB. I am sorry more of our folks did not see the importance of the Saturday meeting, but the Sunday services were both well attended. Not only did we have a good crowd, but the spirit in the services was excellent and we received an excellent offering for our speakers. The men met and determined to raise our sites and our missions budget ... adding $100 a month to the ELC support and $200 a month for the Stalnakers, once they arrive in Vancouver.

Tonight is prayer meeting time. S.D. Gordon wrote, "Prayer is the real work of ministry, service is just gathering in the results of prayer." How true!

Doors, books and other things

If you haven't been at the church since Sunday, you missed a great Wednesday night service and you have missed a lot of physical changes around the building. Wow! The lawn continues to look better and better, thanks to the Nodurfts. The back doors have been replaced ... still some trim work to to, but we have brand new doors! Thanks Dale (and Andrew ... and Carole). You'll see other changes around the building, too, if you look. Howard has been at work (check out the auditorium windows and the missing overhang) and Jerry pitched in with a little repair work.
Have you noticed how smaller jobs become bigger jobs? As we prepare to paint, we discovered that the wood siding on the outside of the pool room is DRY ROTTED ... bad ... needs to be replaced, not just painted. So, following our philosophy that what we do for the Lord we should dor right ... we are going to replace that siding. Lots to do before paint. If you want to add your skill or labor to the task at hand, see Howard Lewis. He can probably find a job for you.

Encouragement for the day: You never know what you can do 'til you try ... and believe that you can do it.

I trust you are planning to be here for the missions weekend. The Saturday night meeting is not just about supper (although it sounds good, from what I've heard), it's about expanding our vision beyond our four walls. It's about being a blessing and encouragement to men of God who are seeking to serve the Lord and are looking to us for support, prayer and friendship. It's about having a heart that is open to what God wants to say to us and what He wants to do in our church. It's about letting the Spirit of God guide us as we make decisions about how we should be involved in the ministry these men represent. In other words, it's about a lot more than supper ... that's why I have emphasized this weekend so strongly for so long. You need to be here.

There will be a meeting of the men after the afternoon service to make some decisions about support for these men. If you are not here to hear their heart ... their call of God ... their burden ... how will you make a wise decision?

Good afternoon. Long time no blog! Hope you are all doing well.
Dr. Townsend and family will arrive this afternoon and be with us this evening, although I will be continuing our study on Doctrine (Doctrine of Satan - His work and methods). Our prayer time tonight will be particularly for the Missions Weekend. The weekend starts on Saturday at 3:30, with supper at 4:30 and the missions presentations at 6:30. Sunday, I will be finishing my SS series on "Let This Mind Be In You", Dr. Townsend will be speaking in the AM and Pastor Stalnaker will be preaching in the afternoon. Dr. Townsend will be doing a package of music in the afternoon service. Our afternoon offering will go to our speakers, in addition to the money we have set aside for them.

Thought for the day: Do not put off until tomorrow, what you can enjoy today.

It's Friday again ... the end of the week and fast approaching the weekend (and a busy weekend, at that). Saturday we have visitation and music practice at 10:00 ... visitation will end at 11:00, but he music will play on. Sunday, the Adult Sunday School lesson is on "Give Yourself a Verbal Lift" - the morning message is from Romans 1:18-32 - the afternoon message will be from Revelation 9. The long awaited parent's meeting, concerning our Christian education ministry (a resource for homeschooling parents) will be Sunday afternoon. And, of course, there is the hang time! (Whew)
Plan to be faithful to God and He will be faithful to you.

Good Days - Going and Coming

Yesterday was a good day. We had about 70 for the picnic and 14 or 15 of those were visitors ... mostly from the local area. Some of the visitors have expressed an intention to come and visit the services. Everyone seemed to enjoy the time. The food was good and the Dees reminded us of our heritage of freedom.

Tomorrow should be a good day as well. Along with a new AM series on the book of Romans and the continuing series in the afternoon from the book of Revelation, the adult Sunday School lesson with be "You are YOUnique" ... we continue our series of studies on a Biblical Positive Spirit.

We will not be taking an offering for the Dees, we have already put money aside to give them a good love gift from our church. Bobby will be singing a couple of songs in the AM service and the Dees will be doing a package of music in the afternoon.

Did I mention that the "pastor, I have a question" will be on the "Bible Codes?" Oh ... well, it will be.

Happy Wednesday. I'm hoping to see you in church this evening ... the Bible Study and prayertime is undoubtedly the most important time of the week for our people and for the well-being of the church. Everyone is well or on the mend (except for Vicki, who has Bronchitis), so we're grateful for answered prayer. Noah is doing well, last word from the doctor, and Heather is still holding up.

Looking Ahead

Yesterday was a good day ... there was a good spirit in the services ... we had visitors in both the morning and afternoon services ... and we had a good turnout for the 'hang time' after the services. We'll probably plan another round of volleyball this coming Sunday, to get everyone primed for the 4th of July.
Yesterday, however, is past and, like the apostle, we need to be looking ahead to this week's opportunities and blessings. To find God's leading for us this week, so we can be used of God. Let's be faithful.
Encouragement for the day: When we follow God's leading, we find His blessing.

It's Wednesday afternoon and I just got off the phone with Pastor Dan. Mikayla and I were over to see Noah today and he had a "shaking" occasion ... apparently he had another one after we left. This had not happened since a week ago Sunday, when he was still in the hospital. We need to be praying for little Noah and Pastor Dan and Heather. They will not be in church this evening, so both of them can be there in case there is a problem with Noah.
The Butlers are visiting with us for a few days. We are pleased to be able to share our Prophet's Chamber with them.

Hey - Is it Tuesday already?

Yep ... Tuesday. Where have I been? Well ...
Monday I was picking up Mikayla from the airport. Today I was counseling, spending a little time with Mikayla and dropping over to Joe and Pats ... Pat is home and doing well. Praise the Lord for answered prayer.
Update -- Noah is settling in well at home - and mom and dad are DEFINITELY good with that. Pastor Jerry has had some really good calls the last 2 days --- he's out making visits, since he doesn't have any roofing jobs. Pray that God will send some work along for Pastor Jerry ... and pray that God will bless his calling efforts this week, while he has this opportunity.
The bark is in and the lawn is thickening up ... thanks to Delbert, June and all that helped along the way -- 9 or 10 of them at one time or another.
